Friends of the Library Annual Meeting & Presentation: Southside Virginia and the War for Independence

April 26 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join the Friends of the Library for their annual meeting followed by a special historical presentation, Southside Virginia and the War for Independence, presented by Dr. David Geraghty.

As the nation marks 250 years of American independence, Dr. Geraghty will explore the role of the people of Virginia south of the James River during the American Revolution. The presentation will highlight the pivotal summer of 1776, when Virginia established itself as a commonwealth independent from the British colonial system.

Dr. David Geraghty has been a resident of Amelia County since 1990, when he and his wife, Gail, moved here from Michigan. He taught U.S. and Virginia Government at Amelia County High School for 12 years before pursuing his PhD. In 2005, he joined the faculty at Longwood University, where he has taught courses in colonial and early American history and directed the history and social studies secondary education program. With two grown children and a growing number of grandchildren, Dr. Geraghty is now enjoying retirement while continuing to share his passion for history.

Community members are welcome to attend this engaging program exploring the region’s role in America’s founding.
