Library History
- 1970: A group of citizens organized a committee to establish a free public library for Amelia County
- 1972, October 12: The library opened its doors in small rooms of the Amelia County Courthouse
- 1973, April 29: The library was dedicated in honor of community physician Dr. James Loving Hamner
- 1974, March 28: The library’s Articles of Incorporation were signed
- 1976: The library moved to a trailer behind the Amelia County Courthouse
- 1978, April 10: The Amelia County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution designating the James L. Hamner Public Library as the public library of Amelia County and committing to provide annual financial support
- 1982: The library moves to the Beopple Building
- 1982?: The library moved to the Jackson Building
- 1999: The library opened the doors to the current building on Dunn Street
