Support the Library

The Friends of the James L. Hamner Public Library are a 501(c)3 organization that accepts donations on behalf of the James L. Hamner Public Library and asks that donors consider remembering the library in their wills. 

Checks may be made out to Friends of the JLH Library.

Donate Books

Book donations are accepted at the Friendly Bookshop. The library is unable to accept donations, due to limited storage space. Neither the Friends nor the library are able to provide values for donated items. 

The Friends will not accept donations that are:

  • Ripped, mildewed, or otherwise damaged
  • Encyclopedias, dictionaries, hymnals, and Bibles
  • Magazines, including National Geographic and complete runs

Paperback books can be recycled. Hardback books can be recycled if the cover is removed.

Other places that sometimes accept book, magazine, CD, or DVD donations:

  • Art teachers (magazines, encyclopedias, CDs, DVDs)
  • Daycare centers (children's books, CDs, DVDs)
  • Domestic violence shelters
  • Homeless shelters
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing/retirement homes
  • School libraries (children's books, CDs)
  • Thrift stores
