Shake Up Your Valentine’s Day Gifts
Make personalized Valentine’s Day gifts for your loved ones! Crafts include salt & pepper shaker couple, decorated cup with candy, and a heart-shaped wreath. Materials will be provided for the first 10 participants to arrive, and everyone after is welcome to stay to learn. Most materials can be found at a dollar store. The workshop will be led by Wendy Audley, a Friends of the Library member and volunteer.
Board Game Night
Play card and board games at the library every first Wednesday of the month! Bring your friends and family, or come to meet new people. There will be plenty of games to choose from, including Uno, Sorry!, Scrabble, and much more, or bring your own games. Everyone is welcome! Snacks provided by the Friends of the James L. Hamner Public Library.
“Can’t Catch Me” Puppet Show
Barefoot Puppet Theatre returns with a new interactive puppet show for families called “Can’t Catch Me!” Did you know that the Barefoot Puppet group makes their own puppets, sets, and stories? Playground Grand Opening
All are welcome to celebrate the grand opening of the new community playground! There will be a ribbon cutting, followed by the playground officially being open to the public. Local children’s author Ashton Bohannon will read her two picture books to kids! Her Christian books are Alexander’s Journey with Jesus and Avalynn’s Royal Inheritance. Storytimes are recommended for kids ages 1-6. Her books will be available for purchase after the program, by cash, check, or card. Be sure to get them signed!
Storytime
Come for a picture book reading and craft or activity, recommended for children 1-6 years old. Rotating librarians and guest readers will do storytime every Friday, except for holidays or library closures. Sophia the READ dog will be here once a month. Other guest readers will be announced on our Facebook and Instagram pages. We hope to see you there!
Storytime with Sssnakes
Amelia County 4-H Agent L.K. Mondrey will bring a snake or two for kids to see, ask questions about, and potentially touch. We will read a snake story book recommended for children 1-6, and then the kids will be able to interact with the snakes. If the adults are frightened by snakes, please let us know and you may be able to leave the room for the interaction part.
Storytime with a Park Ranger
A park ranger from Saylor’s Creek National Battlefield Park will visit for a storytime reading! We will read a picture book recommended for children 1-6 years old. Kids will be able to ask the ranger questions about his job and the park.
Storytime: Sidewalk Chalk
Join us for weekly storytime! A librarian will read a picture book recommended for ages 1-6. Then you will be invited to help us decorate the sidewalks surrounding the library. Make chalk art for all to see! It’s going to be a hot one, so I’ll bring ice pops 🙂
